Five years ago today — on October 16, 2020 — something truly special happened. That morning, the City of Pittsburgh officially proclaimed this date Pittsburgh Professional Women Day, recognizing the work our community has done to support, educate, and uplift women across the region.

It was an unforgettable moment that came during one of the most challenging years of our lifetime. I'll never forget Nicole Lerda and Kelly Fraasch showing up in support, despite the fact that we were wearing masks, outside, keeping a social distance, and it was 40 degrees at the West End Overlook.
While the world was shut down and so much felt uncertain, the women of Pittsburgh were still showing up for each other. We were meeting online, sharing resources, helping one another stay strong, and reminding ourselves that even in hard times, community matters.
Looking Back with Gratitude
When I think about that day, what I remember most isn’t the proclamation itself — it’s the people. It’s the business owners who adapted and innovated, the moms who balanced it all, the leaders who kept their teams going, and the women who found ways to give, mentor, and support others when it mattered most.
That’s what Pittsburgh Professional Women has always been about: women helping women with compassion, courage, and a deep sense of purpose.
Five Years Later
Fast forward to today — October 16, 2025 — and our mission continues stronger than ever. Our members continue to connect, learn, and lead together through events, workshops, and meaningful conversations that foster both personal and professional growth.
This afternoon, we’ll celebrate this milestone in person at our Grace Under Pressure event with my dear friend, Kym Gable, a woman who truly embodies grace, leadership, and community spirit. It feels like the perfect way to honor this anniversary — by gathering with women who care, who give, and who make a difference.
To every woman who has ever attended a meeting, shared her story, joined a program, collaborated on a fundraiser, or simply reached out to lift another up — thank you. You are the heart of this organization and the reason this day was created.
As we look ahead to the next five years, I remain deeply committed to helping women find success in life and business — and to reminding us all that when women come together, anything is possible.
Here’s to you, to us, and to the next chapter of Pittsburgh Professional Women.
With gratitude
